Section 1
Hello, I'm Emma from English!

I'm too hungry to concentrate!
You're good enough to start a conversation in English!
I haven't got enough time.

In this lesson, you'll learn how to use these little, useful words correctly in English language sentences.

Too andenough. Both of these words signal a caste. They give u.s. more information about an adjective or an adverb or a noun.

I'm also hungry to concentrate!

And then, here 'too' means that it is more than than what is wanted or what is needed. Then, information technology'south usually a negative thing! You are more than hungry than you lot desire to be! This is really frustrating for you lot because you lot can't concentrate!

You're good enough to start a conversation in English!

So here, 'enough' tells the states that it is the corporeality that nosotros want or we need. It's the right corporeality and this is a positive matter! Y'all have what is needed, you are expert enough.

Y'all're not adept plenty!

Ouch! That is really mean!

Ouch! That is really mean! 'Not plenty' ways that it is  less than the amount that you lot want or yous need. It's a actually negative thing. It'south a pretty mean thing to say.

So, let'southward look at the structures for each of these words with adjectives and adverbs outset.

Also + adjective/adverb

So, 'too' comes before an describing word or an adverb.

He'due south driving likewise fast.
You're speaking too chop-chop for me.
He's as well old to drive.

Remember that using 'too' with an adjective or an adverb usually suggests that it's a negative matter. It's more what is wanted or needed. So, it'southward not correct to say that the movie was 'too good' when you really enjoyed it! It'due south also not correct to say that your friend is 'besides funny'. It sounds really strange to native English language speakers because information technology suggests that it'south more than what you lot want or what you need it to be. Employ 'actually' or 'very' or 'and so' instead.

Your friend is so funny!
The moving-picture show was actually skilful!

That sounds meliorate!

In that location are some exceptions to this though, when you're speaking colloquially – especially in Australia, where I'm from! Like… For example, if someone asked me, "How are yous?"
I'd probably say, "Not too bad."

This is really common in Commonwealth of australia and it means 'skilful' just that's an exception.

describing word/adverb + enough

Okay, what virtually 'enough'? 'Enough' comes after the adjective or the adverb.

I'm potent enough to lift those boxes.
It'southward warm enough to go for a swim.
He is entertaining plenty to perform on stage.
You're here often enough, you lot might equally well live hither!

Now, what about when 'enough' is used in a negative sentence? 'Enough' comes later the adjective or the adverb but 'non' comes before.

I'1000 not strong enough to lift those boxes.
And this has the same significant equally 'I'm too weak'.

It'due south non warm enough to go for a swim.
…Which means 'it's too cold'!

too + much/many + noun

You can also use 'too' and 'plenty' with nouns. Use 'likewise' with 'much' or 'many' and a noun. So again, this ways that we have more of the substantive than we want or we need. You would cull 'many' if the noun was countable. And you would choose 'much' if the substantive was uncountable.

There are too many people here.
Paul has also much article of furniture in this room!
I've got too many options, I can't decide!
You lot can never give as well much advice.

Now, if you are not sure near which nouns are countable and which are uncountable, y'all should check out this lesson right here because I'll explain information technology for you lot in that location!

plenty + noun

And then, what most 'enough'? Well, with a noun 'enough' comes before the noun. Again, this ways that we have the right amount, the corporeality that nosotros want and that we demand.

I have plenty time.
At that place are enough seats in the automobile, you should come!
We have enough money, let's buy it!

And to brand these sentences negative we add 'not' – usually before the chief verb.

I have not enough time.
She didnorth't earn plenty money.
We haven't fabricated enough nutrient.
There aren't enough people here.

The 'be' verb is a bit of an exception here, to the rule. The structure is a picayune unlike. When the 'be' verb is the main verb, then 'not' comes after the chief verb.

So, these handy lilliputian words volition definitely aid y'all to express yourself more than clearly in English and now y'all know exactly how to utilize them correctly.

Brand certain you do them. Write some examples if you want, add them in the comments beneath!

Remember that 'also' ways that it's more the necessary amount.

'Enough' is the necessary corporeality, it's the exact amount. And 'not enough' is less than the necessary amount.
